When you’re stuck in a scarcity mindset it’s really hard to start thinking abundantly, even when you know it’s what could change everything for you.

There is always more, plenty, plethora, enough. Why don’t we believe this?

Sitting in a place of lack, feeling like there is a shortage of money, time, options, possibilities and stressing about all the what if’s and the lack there of’s, only creates more scarcity.

Not only do the negative thoughts create more negative thoughts, but it keeps us stuck in a place of despair, and confusion with no ladder to get yourself out of the scarcity hole.

What is a scarcity mindset? A scarcity mindset is where we focus on everything that is missing in our lives, of all the things we want and don’t have, of all the ways we can’t have what we want and everything that’s lacking.

Feels heavy doesn’t it?

It spans across all areas of our lives too. A feeling of a shortage of love, relationships, a lack of finances, options, possibilities, and abilities.

It is the opposite of abundance.

The worst part about having a scarcity mindset is that it keeps you stuck in a cycle of more lack.

This vicious cycle creates more and more lack and stops the chances of not only getting out of it but from even coming up with ideas of how to get out of it.

The only way to pull yourself out and stop the cycle, is choosing to think differently.

Choosing to focus on what you do have, not what you don’t have and that starts with asking yourself better questions.

These questions must open up more options and possibilities to see abundance.

Think about an area of your life where you know you have a scarcity mindset and apply these questions. Really take the time to unlock the abundance throughout questioning the scarcity. It’s important you take the time to really invest in answering the questions deliberately because our brains have a negative bias. This means they are wired to see the negative side of things and if we do not consciously choose to change our thinking, it will fall back into the negative pattern or cycle.

The reason we have a negative bias is that our brains are constantly on the lookout for threats to our survival, and any form of danger. We need this to be able to keep ourselves safe, this is what stops us walking out in front of traffic or walking down a dark unsafe alley. Our spidey senses ( primal brain that is wired to keep an eye out for danger) are always are on the lookout. The problem with this is, that we are not constantly in life-threatening situations so our brains can sometimes perceive judgments from others, lack of security (lack of money to keep us safe) and anything that may be a threat to our safety as danger. Unless we choose to refocus our minds to look for the positive, the negative bias can get out of control.

What you focus on is what you get, and the more you focus on what is lacking in your life the more things you will notice to complain about, stress about and freak out about. When we focus on the lack, not only does it lower our vibration to more lack, but it starts to attract more of it as well. Using these questions to refocus your attention and start focusing on the abundance that already exists in your life is a life-changing tool that will lift your vibration, give you options to move forward and a new perspective on life.

Choose an area of your life where you know you are lacking in abundance. Let’s take money for this example.

Firstly, you must first take some time to get out all the frustration, anger, blame and hurt that money has created for you.

Write a letter to money (area of your life) explaining all the hurt, anger, guilt, blame, and the frustration you have for it. Once you feel you have emptied out all of the negative reasons and emotions you feel for money, it’s time to forgive. Yes, you must forgive money for not being everything you wanted it to be and start to find appreciation for what it has given you.

Then use these questions as prompts to refocus your attention.

  • What has money given to you in the past? (Fight the urge to get negative here – really focus on what it HAS given you.)
  • What is it giving you now?
  • What are you taking for granted? (the simple things in life that money allows you – like electricity, wifi, food, water)
  • What opportunities does this situation give you? Really take the time to think this one through, it’s easy to focus on the lack here, but when you really look deeply, you will find opportunities that weren’t there before.
  • Create a list of options to attract more abundance. Get creative here, create a list of at least 20 options – when you think you’ve written down all the options, try for 5 more. ( I know what you’re thinking here – you can’t – well, you can – you’re just not trying hard enough)
  • What can you be truly grateful for?
  • What can I focus on that makes me feel abundant?

Finding ways to feel gratitude for what you have in life, and what this situation is giving you, not only changes your perspective, it lifts your vibration and makes you feel better.

Focus on the feel-good thoughts, find gratitude for what you have and watch the universe provide for you.

Taking the time to find gratitude on a daily basis is the only way to truly shift your perspective to abundance. More abundance will come the more you focus on what you do have, right now, at this moment.
